Kay Baker

Kay has always been a dreamer. She dreamed of owning a horse, traveling the world, and a career as an artist. She never owned a horse but she has traveled a great deal and today is an accomplished artist.

She grew up in the Midwest, married her high school sweetheart while in college, and when he graduated from the university of Wyoming they were off to Tripoli, Libya to work in the oil industry. She had graduated with a degree in Advertising Art but put that on hold for the time they lived in North Africa. Those years were filled with traveling and wonderful memories. Later after he was transferred to Texas she began to pursue a career as an artist. She tool oil lessons and began to sell her work.

After twenty four years in Texas her husband retired and they moved to Bend, Oregon. There she discovered pastels and became an established landscape painter working in watercolors, pastels, and oils.

Years ago she was challenged by noted artist Bill Herring to look into the “horses of her soul”; that is, what really motivated her and what she wanted to convey to her viewers. “This gave more meaning to my work. I was interested more in an emotional connection instead of just copying what I was seeing.” Kay is represented by Sisters Gallery and Frame Shop in Sisters, Oregon or by appointment in her Bend studio.
