Selecting and Editing a Client Supplied Image

The assignment was to make selections from a client supplied image for archival portrait prints at 8 inches by 10 inches. The original image was shot in low light, which resulted in a fair amount of digital noise. The image was also shot at slightly wide angle, noted by verticals sloping away from bottom to top and a slight widening of subjects. Click on any image for a larger view.

<< The image on the left was cropped from the original image shown above. The crop was 5” by 6.25” and had to be upscaled to 8” x 10”. Edits included correcting for wide angle parallax, replacing the figure on the right with a build out of the left side of Tom’s figure, removal of the label on his shirt, masking everything above his shoulders and replacing with a seamless background. Facial enhancements included reduction in color noise, color toning of skin, enhanced shadows and highlights, brightening of his eyes, and selective luminance and clarity .
